What is being counted, exactly
As of Friday, 28 August 2026 there are 125 days left in 2026, counting whole days from tomorrow to 31 December inclusive and not counting today. That is 17 weeks and 6 days, or 17.9 weeks if you want the fraction rather than whole weeks. 240 days of the year have gone, which is 66% of it.
2026 is the year we are in, so the figure above is a live countdown: it is worked out from the day you open the page and it moves every day. Every year we hold figures for is on its own page.
"How many weeks are left" has more than one defensible answer, which is why this page says which one it is giving. We count whole remaining days and we do not count today, on the grounds that most of today has already gone by the time anyone asks. If you count today as well, add one day (which does not usually change the whole-week figure). Whole weeks are the day count divided by seven and rounded down, so the last part-week does not show up until it completes.
Of the 125 days remaining, 89 are Monday to Friday and 36 fall at a weekend. Taking out the US federal holidays still to come leaves 84 working days in 2026 — the figure that matters for a year-end deadline, and the one most day-counters do not give you.
